What Happens on Roof Replacement Day: A Full Timeline

Knowing what to expect removes most of the stress. Here's how a typical single-day install runs.
6:30 – 7:30 AM: setup
Crew arrives, dumpster is positioned, landscaping is tarped, A/C units and windows are protected, and ladders and roof jacks go up. Move your cars out of the driveway the night before.
7:30 – 11:00 AM: tear-off
The loudest part of the day. Old shingles come off in sections and go straight into the dumpster. Expect vibration inside the house — take pictures off the walls beforehand.
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: deck and dry-in
Sheathing is inspected, bad sheets replaced, and the roof is dried in with ice barrier and synthetic underlayment. At this point the house is weather-tight even if a storm rolls in.
1:00 – 6:00 PM: shingles and detail
Starter course, field shingles, flashing details, ridge vent, and ridge cap. The crew finishes with a full magnetic sweep of the property, twice, and a walkthrough with you.
